This is our creed, our foundation, our standing principle of who we are and what we stand for. Don’t you wish there was ONLY one rule needed? I think of that everytime I have to change my passwords that I can NEVER remember. I know, I know you say put it in a spreadsheet, write it down. Yes, all those wonderful tips and tricks work on again and off again for me.
If I could wave a magic wand, (from the world of Ninja sells) I would live in a world where no rules are needed. I would live in a land of NO passwords, no locks on doors and all those security measures. Let’s not even talk about keeping up with my keys, that’s a whole nother essay!!!!!
I am a big time rule follower and I know and believe most rules were created to protect me and you and protect us many times from ourselves. I do think there are a few rules that if attended to, all the other rules would not even be necessary. I think about this a lot when I take an ethics class in Real Estate!!! Seriously, we need a class on ethics. I could solve the class in one sentence!!! Well maybe two!!!
Treat others as you wish you would be treated and even further treat others as they wish to be treated and refer to rule number ONE and ONLY for our companies foundation. If I concentrate my life on doing the next right thing and being kind and gracious and generous to all God’s kids all these other rules would have no life.
As I was thinking about the most important thing to start the year with and share with all of you kind humans, I was reminded of why I do this. I had this grand notion that there could be a group of people, perhaps a company that would do business in a kinder, more gentle way. That it would look less like business and more like life. I envisioned a group of people who treated others fairly and used their words as power tools for growth and encouragement. I believed that in our attempt to gain mastery over our business and our life we could do so and then pass it on.
I believed and still believe that in order to keep anything of value you must give it away. There is a spiritual principle that guides all of us irregardless of religion. Everything we do and everything we put out into the world comes back to us. We can not ever get away with unkindness. We can never ever treat others in a way that we would not want to be treated. We guard our hearts and we guard our words.
I almost entitled this the weight of our words but I thought y’all are probably sick of hearing this so I thought we could get to the same place by referring to the top rule!!! I am convinced that in order to live a life of meaning and purpose and value, the way I treat others and talk to others and share with others will be the ultimate measure of how I enjoy my life.
We have such an opportunity in business to be the different ones. The ones who care deeply first about our integrity and treat each person as a valued member of this planet. We pay attention to the power and weight of our words because those words don’t just impact the person who hears them but the person who shares them.
So to wrap up this love note I had a silly epiphany yesterday!!! I was speaking to Siri, which I often do, we are besties in so many ways. I noticed that I was being really sweet to Siri and was asking her in a kind tone and thanked her for helping me. I laughed to myself but in that laughter I realized that even talking to an object it felt good to be kind. In being kind to Siri I was kind to myself!!! You have heard me say so many times that I am even kind to telemarketers and the reason is this………..
I am never better off by making someone else feel worse off. I hope that in my everyday encounters people will feel like we are the kind of people they need to get even with.
I love you all so very much!!! I can hardly contain myself because being part of this group of humans who are bound together in kindness, excellence and purpose gives me the fullest and most grateful heart!!!!
