Karon the Moron

Evoto

Dear BB’s,

I struggled whether to title this with such a negative but…… It’s the whole point of leading with or using negative words to describe another person.  These words were spoken to me when I was 6 years old and mind you it was from an older cousin who thought he was being cute!!! It was not cute and as you can see I still remember it to this day.

In case you need a refresher on the word moron and its meaning, here you go:

noun. A person of subnormal intelligence. synonyms: changeling, cretin, half-wit, idiot, imbecile. simple, simpleton. a person lacking intelligence or common sense.

Thankfully I heard many other words to describe me and most of them were kind and uplifting and gave me reason to stretch and become more than Karon the Moron!!!!  Like my sweet grandmother who always said, you have the prettiest little legs. My mama,” You have the kindest heart and I love how sweet you are to others.”  My Father,”Thank God for those strong legs that hold you up and get you to where you are going.” This was usually in response to me complaining about my ample thighs!!!  To  be honest most of my happy adjectives and confidence came from living with Hugh Smith for 20 years.  By the time he got finished I thought I could move mountains!!!!

I started focusing on the power of positive thinking as a young girl of 10 years of age. I studied everything I could get my hands on about the power of our words to ourselves and to others. I noticed that every book I picked up about a successful person that had made it through the rough patches had the power of positive thought and speaking.  And not just to others but to themselves.

I am sure you have heard me mention it before but my go to book was What to Say When You Talk  to Yourself by Shad Helmstetter.  My precious college Language Arts teacher gave it to me when she knew I needed a boost to make it through school while working and raising 3 little ones.  Norman Vincent Peale and Zig Zigglar were my constant school companions. Those mentors continue to mentor me today.

I am convinced that the power of our words hold intense energy and if we find ourselves listening to ANY negative words spoken over us we MUST immediately counteract it with a positive.  And the truth is you will need many positives to counter a negative. Yes I do remember that day in that utility room in Headland Alabama when I was crowned Karon the Moron.  But thankfully I had enough counterbalance to know that was not the truth.

I also know that as a good steward of language, it is my intention and responsibility to realize the power and impact of my words and if I make the wrong choice, do all that I can to correct it.

So today, why don’t you think of as many lovely words to describe the people around  you and let them hear how lovely they are!!! I promise they will never forget it and neither will you. The magic of uplifting  words is  that it impacts those who send them out and those who receive them!!!

I know that I happen to be in the presence of some of the most delightful, most honorable, kindest, most compassionate, smartest, most helpful, most encouraging, most patient and LOVING humans!!!!

Love and more love,

Karen the most grateful
