Flipping my own Darn switch!!!

First off, saying “my own darn switch” brings back childhood memories. There was a movie called That Darn Cat and my mom told me that when she was a little girl she would not have been able to go see that movie because of the curse word!!! Oh my good thing my mama never went with me to play golf!! Okay back to my story.

I am working on a talk for next week, actually 2 of them in the same day and of course I have known about both of them for quite some time. And the closer I get to the date the more frightened I get. Here is the irony of this:  My topic is how we use positive triggers in our lives, how we reframe old scripts into positive life affirming scripts. And here I still sit saying to myself. Why did I say I would be a speaker? What in the world can I say?  I am scared!I am nervous!  What if I am not good enough? Who wants to hear what I have to say?  What if they think I am hokey?

Do you see the issue here?  That sure is a lot of negative, fear talk from a girl who wrote the book Joy is my Favorite color and wants to talk loudly about choosing affirming positive words when I speak to myself and others.  I know I know I need to take my own medicine, good tasting medicine that is.

So here is my flip!!!  I am now saying.  Oh my gosh everytime someone asks me to speak am so excited and I can hardly wait to hop up there and share my message of hope and love to a wanting world. My fear is flipped to enthusiasm, I can hardly wait to love my audience. I can hardly wait to love people with my words. My words hold power not just to me but to all those I encounter. Let them be light and let them be hope.

I know that in doing this my words come first and then the actions. Just like that worn out word motivation, because I know that motivation happens after the movement and not before.

So as I write this message I am writing it to me and to you to remind us the unyielding power of the words we speak to ourselves So from this day forward I am flipping that darn trigger and I am so excited to speak and will believe that in my words someone else will find something that brings them a little more joy, a little more hope and a lot more love.

My new mantra and my soundtrack. I love people with my words and I can not wait to do it!!!

Thanks for letting me share my fear so that we can turn them into hope together.

Loving this life adventure with you,

Karen Key Smith
