This week, in honor of my sweet husband’s heavenly birthday, I wanted to share a darling poem that my daughter, Britt, wrote for him.
A little back story!!! Hugh was quite the calm one and was never rattled or ruffled about the little things and most of the big things. He was also very respectful of all of nature, from ants to even those pesky, gross cockroaches. All God’s creatures great and small were to be cherished and honored in his book.
Hugh used to stash lots of candy in his drawer at work, and when he opened it one day, it was crawling with ants. He quite calmly took the drawer outside to relocate all the ants. So this poem below was inspired by that memory and written by my sweet daughter, Britt.
ANTS HAD TAKEN OVER
Ants had taken over
The drawer of your desk
But you were not perturbed by the mess
You laughed with your signature rasp
And softly witnessed their sugar-crazed lap
Around pens and stamps and notes inscribed
Until you took the drawer
And gently laid it outside
So they could go back to nature’s green
And we all stood in awe
At how you loved
Every living thing.
